Claire Devlin Trio // James Fernando

James Fernando is a pianist and composer whose music lies at the intersection of jazz, classical, and electronic music. He relies on his genre-expanding original compositions to deliver thought provoking and exciting performances. The Berklee College of Music graduate released his debut album Extended Layover in 2018 as a collaboration with Mingjia Chen and released his first album as a solo artist, The Lonely Sailor , in 2019.

Formed in 2017, the Claire Devlin Trio unites three unique musical voices from the Montreal jazz scene. Lyrical melodies are paired with driving rhythms, and the traditional roles of each instrument are often left behind. The trio's repertoire of original music strikes a balance of intricate through-composition and completely open-ended improvisation.

Ottawa Jazz Festival: John Hollenbeck’s McCQ featuring Anna Webber and Matt Mitchell

They have played multiple shows around Montreal, including a concert with Jen Shyu in October 2018, and toured to Toronto and Ottawa in December 2018. This special concert will include the other two thirds of Anna Webber’s Simple Trio (who are also playing earlier on Friday June 21 at 6:00pm on the NAC Fourth Stage). John Paton's Painting by Numbers

Vancouver-based Saxophonist and Composer John Paton leads a group of Montreal players to premiere a new set of original works. Featuring

John Paton - Saxophone/Compositions

John Hollenbeck's McClaudia Quintet

Sarah Rossy - Vocals
Claire Devlin - Tenor Sax, Clarinet
David Rhysphan - Piano, Keyboards
Cole Birney-Stewart - Bass
John Hollenbeck - Drums/Composition

John Hollenbeck's McClaudia Quintet sound continues to explore the edge without alienating the mainstream, proving that genre-defying music can be for everyone.Unlike most jazz ensembles where the particular musicians may come and go, drummer, composer and leader John Hollenbeck always wanted McClaudia to be a ‘band’ with a sound not only determined by the compositions and the instrumentation, but with the actual players who perform the music.
